As an Italian who spent her early years shadowing her mother and grandmother in the kitchen, food is of the upmost importance. Food is what brings people together. It sparks conversations. It even leads to a few food fights on more than one occasion.
At my house growing up, snack time was the time to go absolutely wild. I was also one of the kids who decided -at random- to make the world's weirdest food combos and some of them even stuck and to this day I will die on some of those hills.
My favorite snack is also one of my favorite meals. I can only get it at the Galaxy Diner in Riverdale on 23 which is always my favorite place to eat. It has the best matzoh ball soup and that isn't even my favorite thing there. The soup is to die for and I personally get it every time I go. But what comes after is my favorite snack that I die for and crave every time I get the chance - it's also the weirdest thing that I eat.
Every time I go, I get the fried filet of flounder with corn and mashed potatoes as sides. You may be thinking to yourself that there's no way to eat that in a way that conventional people would be scoffed at and probably grossed out by. However, it gets weird in exactly how I eat it.
I am one of those people who are very picky in what they eat and how they eat. The way I eat my favorite snack is a very long and almost strenuous process. First, ketchup is spread all over the fish. This is the most important step, the ketchup makes or breaks the flavor combo. The next steps are where it gets weird. You're going to cut up the filet with each bite you take. I take that bite and the dip it into the mashed potatoes. From there, with the fish, ketchup, and mashies, I dip it into the corn and red peppers. All of those flavors and textures go into one singular and heavenly bite.
It's the texture that makes it the best thing ever for me. The crunchy, soft, and chewy aspects make every part of my sensory sensitive brain go YES. Everything about it screams comfort to me, especially with a choccy milk.
should be longer ... and try adding a foto ... to spread it out ...
